revolution against corruption
The amazing responseto the movement to expedite legislation on Lokpal bill, spearheaded by renowned social activist, Anna Hazare is indeed a welcome development given the present alarming rate of corruption in our system. While the support from all sections of the society is a pointer that the rot of corruption is a matter of concern to all of us but another vital issue is that merely bringing about legislation to set up Lokpal may not prove to be panacea for all ills in our democratic machinery which has flourished over the decades. It is well known that the institution of Lok Ayukta in the states has not achieved the desired results and in some states has even proved to be a non starter. While it would be need of the hour to bring about requisite legislation to set up effective institution of Lokpal at the earliest after taking the views of all sections of the society but the public at large has to continue to be vigilant so as to ensure that existing agencies dealing with eradication of corruption are allowed to function impartially and independently. It is generally observed that the influential persons manage to go scot free by misusing the government machinery. It is high time that deployment ,punishment and control of investigating agencies is taken out of control of political and administrative superiors so as to avoid the possibility of misuse by way of uncalled for interference and influence.People of this country have to maintain this spirit so that persons in positions are kept under constant watch and scare with the active and constructive involevement om media...

The news of release of Malkangiri District collector Krishna by the maoists has come as big relief to all concerned as also to the family of abducted bureaucrat. Since yesterday the delay in his release has been causing concern to all as the risk involved was looming large with uncertainity over his release more after the release of junior engineer abducted alongwith him. This incident has come close to another unfortunate and bizzare incident involving Additional district collector Nashik in Maharashtra resulting in the death of a promising officer.Given these abnormal incidents it is now necessary to review the entire security mechanism provided to public servants so as to enable them to to discharge their duties fearlessly and efficiently.Over the decades there has been hardly any security to field officers in bureaucracy as they were to exhibit confidence so as to raisethe morale of their own team as well as the public at large by their own conduct. Going by personal experience in this field as formerI A S officer, it used to be normal to handle even serious law and order problems personally avoiding police presence and much less its use which was only to be the last resort. It now goes without saying that with changed scenario over a period of time as also the complexity of present times there is urgent need to address this issue of securtiy to public servants in general and field officers in particular.
